Birthday Card

(1) Nowadays in Malaysia, most youngster and teenager will have a party like birthday celebration. But there are still people who like to celebrate their birthday in a form of family dinner or reunion.
For Chinese, they think that 1year old and 21 year old birthday is the most important birthday in their entire life; because 1-year-old is the first step from baby into this world, where 21years old is the years towards adulthood. Normally, during a traditional Chinese birthday celebration, black colour cloths are not encouraged because it is an unlucky colour for them. In contrary, red colour is the best colour for the birthday host. There are many form of birthday present in Chinese tradition. But the most unique present from other ethnic is red packet “ang pao”. Also can be use as a birthday present.

In our country, birthday party celebration may be varying from different ethnic and race to religion. For taoism, they may pray or make wish to their deity during their birthday celebration. But for Christian, they will make prayer and thanks giving during their birthday. For sure, foods and drinks in a different ethnic birthday celebration may be different too. For example, Malays will have rendang, kuih-muih, and sirap. Indians will have cookies and curry. And Chinese will have their cuisine and maybe liquor or beer for adult. Yet, all in all… although these differences, there is still one thing that everyone will have in their birthday celebration, which is a birthday cake.

(2) In Malaysia, most of the people will celebrate their birthday with their friends, family, lover... Normally, foods and drinks will be serving for the celebration. And of course, the celebration can't be complete without a birthday cake. The candles that represent the age of the person who birthday is celebrated will be lighted up on the cake. After everybody sang the birthday song, the lights will be blown after the one who birthday is celebrated made a wish.

The culture I have chosen is Chinese. I have replaced the electronic guitar to a Pipa(Chinese Lute). This plucking instrument has been played for about 2000 years in Chinese. I think it is a carries a symbolic meaning to Chinese culture. I choose gold series color for my birthday card because gold represents fortune and prosperity. Gold is also one of the favourite color in Chinese culture.

Gradient was used to create a texture of wooden board.

Final Work

I think that Labour Day is meaningful for those who work.
Nowadays, many people don't satisfy. They just work for living. Some of them do not get well with their colleage. Some of them can't do their job well. Most of them have a problem with their boss. So, Labour Day is the day let them rest. Not just for the physical body but also let their heart to rest. They can take this chance to have some time for themselves to think about their job. What they have done in their life and what they really want in their career.
The festival I choose is Labour Day which fall on 1st of May.

The layout of this calendar is simple. With a round object in the middle of the image and object that place randomly as the background. The another part is days of the month. The days are place at the left side and the month and year are place at the lower part of right side.

Calendar of May.
The concept of calendar I design is to place some symbols that represent some profession randomly as the background. The I place a sun in the middle of the image that represent the whole day is a holiday and they can have some rest in that day.

The sketch I drew.

I have search some pictures as my reference for drawing. All the pictures are from http://www.msn.com/ .

I used some tools that is not teach in tutorial. Which is Eraser Tool. It delete the part we don't want in a shape. The I used Direct Selection Tool to adjust to the shape I want.

These are the technique that i learn tutorial class. Create some shape with different types of transparency. Then place them together and have the result.

I have tried different types of transparency on the sun. This is the outcome.

This is my final work.

The reference I used is http://www.msn.com/. I used this website to search for different kinds of professions to help me in drawing.

Sketch of Logo

This is the sketch of my Nando's logo.

Redesigned Logo

The logo I choose to redesign is Nando's.

I used 4 color to design this logo. Which is brown, Red, Yellow and Green.

Brown = Roasted Chicken
Red = Chili
Yellow = Garlic
Green = Herb
At the same time, these 4 color also represent the level of spicyness of Nando's flavour.

I changed the live chicken, which is from the original logo to a roasted chicken because I think that a roasted chicken can stimulate the customers' appetite.
The circle lines represent a plate that also gives the meaning that the chicken is dish out. The peppermint leaf and Nando's logo show the level of spicyness of Nando's flavor.
The lines of the logo are more like pencil and charcoal mark. And the font of Nando's is handwriting. These is because I want to makes people feel friendly rather than formal.
